PERSONALITY TRAITS

Occupation/Education:
Feature writer for the local weekly newspaper; four-year college degree in English.

Background:
Angela grew up in a small town. She attended college in another small town, about an hour away from home. After graduation, she moved back home and started working for the local newspaper, a small weekly paper. While there, she met her husband, Jacob Givens. They were married in June 2004 and just celebrated their second wedding anniversary.

Angela had a pleasant childhood. She was the baby in the family, protected and doted on. Her only brother is three years older than her. While they had the typical sibling rivalry, they are remain close as adults.

Angela was raised Catholic. Because she attended public school, she also had to attend CCD classes on Saturday mornings. She continues to practice her faith. She and her husband Jacob were married in the Catholic Church, though Jacob has not yet decided to become Catholic.
Angela frequently attends Sunday Liturgy alone.

She doesn't smoke and doesn't like cigarette smoke. She is a light-weight when it comes to alcohol, sometimes having a glass of beer or a glass of wine with dinner. She refuses to drink-and-drive because of two incidents with drunk drivers.

Angela's main goal in life is to start a family. She's been married for two years and believes that she is ready for this next step.

Angela's Family:

Angela is the daughter of Joseph Angelo Zanipolo and Mary Therese Zanipolo.

Joseph Angelo Zanipolo was 28 years old when he proposed to Mary Therese. Mary Therese was 19 years old when she became engaged. When they married in 1976, Joseph was 29 and Mary Therese was 20.

Joseph Angelo Zanipolo II was born one year later, in 1977. Angela was born three years later in 1980.

Joseph Angelo Zanipolo was born in 1947. He is 59 when Quilted Dreams takes place.

Mary Therese Zanipolo was born in 1956. She is 50 when Quilted Dreams takes place.

Internal Conflicts:
Angela believes that her parents had the perfect marriage. They never seemed to fight, they always helped each other when working around the house. She wants to emulate that and thinks that every disagreement that she and Jacob have is a pending disaster. Her desire to have a baby has its roots in her desire to have the perfect marriage and family.

External Conflicts:
Angela has to convince her husband that they should have a baby sooner rather than later.

Angela also has to overcome the antagonism between herself and her mother-in-law. This antagonism or conflict is brought to a head when Angela finds an old baby quilt at the mother-in-law's yard sale. The quilt was meant to be thrown in the trash, but Angela selvages
it, thus creating even more animosity between them.

Miscellaneous Notes:
Angela is not a quilter. Learning about quilts is part of her journey.
